Every year, the state of Pennsylvania's Treasury gets millions and millions of dollars in unclaimed property---things like bank accounts, forgotten stocks, CD's, life insurance policies, safe deposit contents and recovered stolen property.
The state holds onto these assets until they can return it to their rightful owners. As of June 2009, Pennsylvania had over $1.5 billion in unclaimed property---and in 2008, they returned $86 million to more than 57,000 owners---The state wants to return all the funds it can.
